Application form to attend a meditation seclusion in the Ārāma Karunā Sevena

  • You can find the current offer of courses in the calendar

Being a beginner is often exciting and at the same time a little intimidating. We don’t know what to expect, if we will be able to follow the practice, if we will understand the teaching, or we are worried about making mistakes. But we are also enthusiastic about learning more about Dhamma, and put the theory into practice.

All these feelings are absolutely normal, and you do not need to worry about them, because at the ārāma Karuṇā Sevena you will be able to find a safe space where kindness, patience, and respect are fundamental values.

If you would genuinely like to know more about the meditation practice, and about Dhamma teaching, you are warmly welcome to join our weekend retreats, where every basic step is thoroughly explained.

During every weekend retreat practitioners will be guided step by step into the rules of the ārāma, will be introduced to Dhamma, and well supported in their meditation practice.

You will be staying in a monastic dwelling and you will be welcomed as part of the Karuṇā Sevena community. Being in a community, you will be required to help in keeping the ārāma clean, in sharing some chores with your fellow practitioners, and be respectful of your surroundings.

We believe in your good intention and that your experience will be beneficial for yourself and for others you will share it with.

I am not a beginner, why do I need a weekend retreat before being admitted to the long-term seclusions?

If you are an experienced practitioner, you may well know that every monastery follows different rules in holding retreats, and in welcoming lay devotees. The ārāma Karuṇā Sevena is a small dwelling where Bhikkhunī Visuddhi is the only monastic who is a permanent resident. Due to these restrictions, the ārāma is currently not able to provide the same activities of other bigger monasteries. Thus, it is important for every newcomer (beginner or advanced) to get familiar with the rules and the daily routine of the ārāma before staying for a longer period of time.

It is also important that every newcomer is aware that the ārāma Karuṇā Sevena follows the Sri Lanka theravāda tradition.

As a newcomer, you may want to start getting familiar with the monastery life, with some of the teachings, and with Venerable Bhikkhunī Visuddhi. Feel free to read through this websites and to contact us at the email below for any extra inquiry:

We kindly invite you to carefully read the rules of conduct and to become familiar with the monastery daily routine before venturing yourself in the retreat.
