Suriya Lamai help unprivileged families in Sri Lanka, especially those living in areas affected by natural disasters. Our help consists in providing food, water, clothing, blankets, medicines and shelters, however, the journey to those remote destinations is often very challenging, and dangerous.
Flood Relief | Sri Lanka 2025
At the end of 2025, Sri Lanka was struck by devastating floods and landslides. In response to this situation, the Suriya Lamai – Children of the Sun project successfully raised €3,000 through generous donations, which was used to provide concrete assistance in the affected areas.
The aid was carried out in collaboration with the venerable Sri Thissapura Gunarathana Thera from the Sri Sambodhi Monastery, who is in direct contact with the local community and ensures that support reaches those who need it most.
Support for Families
At the same time, two families whose homes were severely damaged by the floods were identified. These families are now living in temporary conditions.
Thanks to your support, the first steps toward repairing their homes have begun. The cost of materials for repairing one house is approximately €1,200. Thus, the aid addresses not only immediate relief but also the gradual restoration of dignified living conditions.
Support for Children
From the donated funds, school uniforms were purchased for children who lost their basic belongings during the floods. The uniforms were personally delivered to the children in their homes.
This assistance not only provides material support but also offers the opportunity to return to normal life — to education, stability, and a sense of security.
Transparency and Tangible Impact
All steps are carried out in close cooperation with the local Sri Sambodhi Monastery, which provides a detailed account of how the funds are used.
