Supporting Hill Country Tamil Families in Nuwara Eliya
Our humanitarian work focuses on supporting some of the most vulnerable communities in the hill country of Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka, where Hill Country Tamil families live and work on tea plantations.
These communities often face extremely difficult living conditions. Their income is very limited and depends on physically demanding labor, for which they receive only minimal wages. Many families struggle with a lack of basic necessities, child malnutrition, and limited access to education.
Our Support
We provide direct and practical support based on real needs. This includes:

staple food supplies such as rice, lentils, and dried foods,

powdered milk for children, and
-
essential school materials like notebooks and writing supplies.

targeted support for specific families in difficult circumstances.
We especially focus on families in the most difficult situations, such as single mothers, those affected by illness, or households with multiple children and no stable income.
The Meaning of This Activity
This service is not just about material assistance. It is primarily an expression of compassion (karuṇā) and shared humanity. Meeting these families reminds us of how deeply people are connected and how even a small act can bring real relief.
The help is received with great gratitude and often with deep emotion.
At the same time, it leads us to humility and awareness that this is not about donor and recipient, but about reciprocity – the opportunity to be present where help is needed.
Personal Approach and Long-Term Commitment
Our aim is not only to offer one-time assistance, but to provide ongoing support. Each year, we strive to significantly help at least one family and contribute to improving their living conditions.
All support is delivered personally to remote mountain villages, allowing us to stay in close contact with the local community and respond sensitively to their needs.
