This story began when Venerable bhikkhunī Visuddhi met three young girls at her home monastery in Sri Lanka. From the very first encounter, it was clear that their living conditions were extremely difficult. The Venerable saw that the girls lacked basic necessities for a dignified life – sufficient food, proper clothing, and a stable environment.

Over time, it became clear that as small children, they had lost their father and were left without any support that could enable them to continue their education or even meet basic survival needs. They were living in very poor conditions, without any security for the future.

Based on this direct experience, Venerable bhikkhunī Visuddhi recommended to our organization, Karuṇā Sevena, that these girls should be supported and cared for.

​

Therefore, within the framework of the Suriya Lamai project, Karuṇā Sevena decided to provide these girls with long-term support. The goal was not only to alleviate their immediate needs but also to help them regain a dignified life and open the path to education.

​

Thanks to this support, over the past few years, their living conditions have improved significantly. The youngest girl, who previously did not attend school, now goes regularly to classes. The two older girls are attending secondary school and have the opportunity to develop their skills.

Support includes all basic needs – food, clothing, school materials, tuition, and transportation. The organization provides full care for their daily life and creates conditions for their continued development.

Today, real change is visible. The girls are gradually reintegrating into society, pursuing education, and their lives are taking a positive new direction. What was once marked by uncertainty and deprivation has turned into hope and real opportunities for the future.
