Sri Lanka has been hit by catastrophic flooding and deadly landslides following Cyclone "Ditwah" in late November 2025. This storm brought record-breaking rainfall across the island, overwhelming rivers and causing widespread inundation.

The disaster’s toll continues to rise, and while precise numbers vary by source, the scale of need is vast:
Approximately 600+ people confirmed dead due to flooding and landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwah, according to multiple recent reports and official figures.
Over 2 million people across Sri Lanka have been directly affected by the recent floods and landslides.
At least 1,289 homes have been completely destroyed, while more than 44,500 homes have suffered severe damage, leaving families without safe shelter.
Thousands of families have lost everything — their homes, personal belongings, and, for many children, essential school materials and uniforms. The disaster has also placed significant strain on the healthcare system, which is working tirelessly to provide care under conditions for which it was not adequately prepared.
