1. Children from Sakyadhīta nunnery
Sakyadhita Training and Meditation Centre
115/2A Sri Dhammananda Mawatha
Children learn as well Dhamma (Buddha's teachings) in the nunnery. Unfortunately, there is not enough of the school-books today. Children get exercise books in which they can write in during the class, however, if they had school-books they could read as well at home alone and they could go back to the single popular stories. Readings and impersonating jātakas, are the next forms of teaching. Those are the stories from the past Buddha's lives bringing always a very valuable moral message. Rehearsals of the theatre performance with this topic is one of the most popular activity. We endeavour to make for the kids a good time in the school environment. Only then the school is an inspiring and a merry place for the kids. For this reason we need resources and means to renovate and paint the concrete hall in which the Dhamma can be thought. The building located in the middle of the village is very old, unsatisfactory, not appropriate, ruined and does not offer to the kids any comfort that we may usually experience in our schools.
Venerable Visuddhi herself could experience that Sri Lanka children love to play the theater (rehearsals of jātaka). It is quite a lot typical for them. They live with the playing of the stories and enjoying the dance to a great extend. They dress out in particular for each of the chosen story. They put on costumes and give a great effort to each of the role playing. Story drawings on a huge ark of paper is the next very popular activity during the Dhamma classes. Learning how to show respect to, how to honour for parents and how to ask them for example for forgiveness if they did something wrong is a huge part of the Sri Lanka culture and of the education in this school.
In the schoold of Dhamma the nuns lay extra stress on ethics but children learn many more things here. In the ārāma the children get the basics for their common lives. They help with cleaning and take care of the center activities. They learn how to dine and how to act in a collective and in a group of the other children and adults.
School-books and charges for one young nun for one year = 52.000 (Rs) Rupees, (346,- EUR)
Register charges = 40,- EUR
Expenditures for the class and commuting = 240,- EUR
Cost for books = 66,- EUR
2. Orphans from the home of "Angela Home"
In this home our organization was helping to the girls that lost both of their parents or were abandoned from unknown reason. 21 girls in the age from five to eighteen lived in this orphanage located close to the Sri Lanka capital Colombo. This home was established in 1951 as a charity, as a charitable organization. In the year 2010, it was once again newly registered and renamed to “Angela – a Center for a Child Development“. Our representatives of our organization visited the home during several years. They delivered over to the girl’s school gadgets and accessories, hygienic and sanitary aids. We helped to build a new fence. However, the home was still not in a sufficient stage, especially from the hygienic point of view. Because of the security reasons, the girls had to be transferred into the other homes in the area based on the resolution of the direction because of long lasting mandatory problems with a neighbor.
3. Children from the Nuwara Eliya mountain area
Nuwara Eliya is a name of the highest place in the mountain area in Sri Lanka. Very poor families with their children live there. In 2014 during the visit of Venerable Visuddhi there were very huge landslides. Many families lost their homes and the others were very endangered. In some of the areas people were left without homes in the villages as they collapsed and people lost everything. “A very great unusual floods appeared during the rainy season. Some of the areas were heavily damaged. The harm and loss were caused to a great extent. This action was not planned much in advanced. We actually bought the food, the basic necessities and we started the journey to help and to rescue,” said the venerable Visuddhi. We bought the basic means for the children such as rice and other sorts of food, exercise books and pastel crayons. We delivered over to the families and children gifts in the value of one hundred thousand of Czech Crowns (100.000, - CZK or 4.000, - EUR).
