As the country continues the battle against a new outbreak of Covid-19, with an average of 3,000 new infections and 30 deaths per day, the recent explosion of a cargo ship carrying toxic chemicals has worsened the already precarious situation.
The lives of thousands of Sri Lankan families are at high risk of extreme poverty not only because of the extension of the COVID lockdown, but also because of the new fishing ban. Great part of the population relies on the fishing industry, being it their only source of income.
Due to the latest tragic events, families, hospitals and clinics have been in urgent need of support.
